Eating with braces

Healthy eating habits are important whilst you have your braces on.
Drink plenty of water throughout the day
Eat slowly and carefully
Cut all foods into small pieces and chew on your back teethAvoid pulling your food apart with your front teeth
  • Eat plenty of vegetables, legumes and fruits
  • Eat plenty of cereals (including breads, rice, pasta and noodles)
  • Include lean meat, fish, poultry and/or alternatives Include milks,yoghurts, cheeses and/or alternatives.
and take care to:
  • Consume only minimal amounts of sugars and foods containing added sugars
  • Limit saturated fat and moderate total fat intake
  • Choose foods low in salt
The best way to reduce the risk of decay during orthodontic treatment isto keep oral hygiene at a high standard and stop the intake of soft drinks,sports drinks and reduce food containing sugar
To reduce the risk of breakages it is best to avoid
  • Hard Foods – Nuts, Muesli Bars, Ice
  • Chewy/Sticky Foods – Minties, Mars Bars, Redskins, Lollies, ChewingGum
  • Crunchy Foods – Popcorn, Nuts, Pork Crackling
